A Routine Day Turns Deadly
On October 21, 2017, a typical Saturday afternoon in Phoenix's Sunnyslope area took a tragic turn. Mikhail Y. Khachaturov, a 56-year-old clerk, was attending to his duties at a local "We Buy Gold" store near 7th Street and Dunlap Avenue. The day seemed ordinary until a suspect entered the establishment, attempting a robbery that would escalate into a fatal encounter. Witnesses reported hearing a single gunshot, and upon arrival, police found Khachaturov critically wounded. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
A Community in Shock
The sudden and violent loss of Khachaturov sent shockwaves through the local community. Roman Aranbaev, the owner of the store, described Khachaturov as a "very great man, very professional," and a "kind person with a heart" on whom others could always rely.
