The city of Chicago has long grappled with the scourge of gun violence, with countless families bearing the weight of loss and unanswered questions. Among these tragedies is the case of Kevin Diaz, a 14-year-old boy whose life was abruptly ended in the Marquette Park neighborhood. Despite the passage of time, his murder remains unsolved, leaving a community yearning for justice.
On the evening of May 22, 2014, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Kevin Diaz was walking near the intersection of 64th Street and Francisco Avenue in Chicago's Marquette Park neighborhood. The sudden and violent loss of Kevin sent shockwaves through his family and the community. Grisel Hernandez, Kevin's cousin, expressed the profound grief felt by his loved ones, stating, "We just lost everything. Trayvon Clark, a neighbor and friend, recounted hearing six shots that night and discovering Kevin lying on the ground, describing the scene as "very emotional" and something "nobody wants to see."
Kevin was a freshman at Sarah Goode STEM Academy and was eagerly anticipating his upcoming 15th birthday. Friends described him as a "happy-go-lucky kid" who had a bright future ahead.
