On Sunday, July 6, 2014, at approximately 5:23 a.m., the tranquility of Northeast Washington, D.C., was shattered by the sound of gunfire. In the rear alley of the 1200 block of Simms Place, NE, 23-year-old DaShawn Hammonds was discovered unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention, DaShawn was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital.
