A Quiet Night Shattered
In the early hours of December 22, 2012, the stillness of Northeast Washington, D.C., was pierced by the sound of gunfire. Raymond Harris, an Amtrak employee, and his friend, 69-year-old Nathaniel Beasley, were seated in Harris's Chevy Impala on the 1100 block of Bladensburg Road NE when they were brutally attacked. Both men sustained gunshot wounds; Harris was pronounced dead at the scene, while Beasley was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
A Wife's Heartbreak
Karen Harris, Raymond's wife, recalls that night with vivid clarity. She had fallen asleep beside her husband around 11 p.m., only to awaken at 4 a.m. to find him gone and his car missing.
