A Promising Life Cut Short

On February 6, 2016, the vibrant life of 20-year-old Kayla-LynnAsia Peatrice Freeland was tragically ended. Born on June 13, 1995, in Jacksonville, Florida, to parents Sha'Ron Gould and Leonard Freeland, Kayla was known for her infectious smile and lively personality. She attended Terry Parker High School, where she participated in the ROTC program and was a member of the Ladies of Infinity. Her commitment to community service was evident through her volunteer work with the Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department Explorer Post 83. Kayla had recently returned to school, aspiring to become a paramedic, a profession shared by her mother. Her future seemed bright, especially with the upcoming celebration of her son Daryl's first birthday.

The Tragic Discovery

The anticipation of Daryl's milestone birthday was shattered when Kayla's boyfriend returned to their Arlington Village apartment on Bert Road. He found Kayla lying on the living room floor, fatally shot, while their son Daryl was unharmed nearby.
