In the early hours of May 1, 2015, the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, D.C., was shattered by the sound of gunfire. At approximately 12:52 a.m., 21-year-old Gregory McBryde was fatally shot in the 1300 block of Harvard Street, NW. A Mother's Heartbreak

For Rochica McBryde, Gregory's mother, the pain of that night is ever-present. She recalls the chilling moment when she heard the shots that took her son's life. "I heard shots," she recounted. "I panicked and I texted my son. And I said, 'They're shooting, are you ok?'" Tragically, Gregory never responded. Moments later, friends knocked on her door, delivering the devastating news.
