A Tragic Night in Columbia Heights
In the early hours of May 1, 2015, the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, D.C., was shattered by the sound of gunfire. At approximately 12:52 a.m., 21-year-old Gregory McBryde was fatally shot in the 1300 block of Harvard Street, NW. The incident left the community in shock and a family grappling with an unimaginable loss. Despite the passage of time, the case remains unsolved, and the quest for justice continues.
A Mother's Heartbreak
For Rochica McBryde, Gregory's mother, the pain of that night is ever-present. She recalls the chilling moment when she heard the shots that took her son's life. "I heard shots," she recounted. "I panicked and I texted my son. And I said, 'They're shooting, are you ok?'" Tragically, Gregory never responded. Moments later, friends knocked on her door, delivering the devastating news. "I opened my door, and they said, 'Ms. Rochica, can you come outside?'" She saw her son lying on the ground, a sight that would forever haunt her.
