A Mother's Reluctant Consent

On the evening of September 19, 2015, in Chicago's North Kenwood neighborhood, 14-year-old Tyjuan Poindexter pleaded with his mother, Michelle Poindexter, for permission to join friends for a game of basketball. Initially hesitant due to concerns about neighborhood safety, Michelle eventually allowed her son to go, unaware that this decision would lead to a tragic outcome.

The Fatal Incident

As Tyjuan and his 15-year-old friend walked toward a nearby school park around 7:30 p.m., a vehicle approached them on the 4400 block of South Greenwood Avenue.
