In the early hours of Friday, April 28, 2000, the quiet neighborhood of Southeast 3rd Avenue in Gainesville, Florida, was shattered by a violent crime. At approximately 1:27 a.m., 27-year-old Kevin Grimmage was found fatally shot in the front yard of his residence at 1315 SE 3rd Ave. The young man's life was abruptly ended, leaving a community in mourning and a family seeking answers.
The Fatal Encounter
According to reports, a neighbor recounted hearing loud music followed by the sounds of a scuffle. Peering through her window, she observed Kevin engaged in a physical altercation with two unidentified Black males. As she moved to call 911, a gunshot rang out. Rushing back to the window, she saw Kevin's vehicle speeding away from the scene. First responders later confirmed that Kevin had suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest.
