A Tragic Night in Merced
On the evening of July 12, 2003, the tranquility of Merced, California, was shattered by a heinous crime that remains unsolved to this day. At approximately 9:50 PM, sheriff's deputies responded to a distress call from 1301 Rita May Avenue, reporting gunshots and a house engulfed in flames. This was the residence of 43-year-old Robert Gilliam III, a man who would soon become the victim of a brutal and senseless murder.
The Attack Unfolds
Before the authorities arrived, Gilliam had been transported to a local hospital by a private party. Despite his grievous injuries, he managed to provide deputies with a harrowing account of the events.
