A Tragic Night in Yuma

On the evening of March 8, 1996, the Mendoza family hosted a lively barbecue at their home on 24th Lane in Yuma, Arizona. Ten-year-old Amberly Ann Mendoza, a fourth-grade student at Valley Horizon Elementary School, spent the night playing with friends and watching her favorite movie, "Pocahontas." As the festivities wound down around 11:30 p.m., Amberly, feeling sleepy, bid goodnight to her family and retreated to her bedroom. The following morning, Amberly's mother prepared breakfast for the family and went to wake her daughter.
