Two boys located the remains in a dry ditch approximately 200 yards east of the Shiprock football field while walking to school. The remains were recovered by the Shiprock police department on 9/4/1987 and sent to Albuquerque for autopsy. A receipt for purchase of a beer on 21 July 1987 was in the jeans pocket, providing the terminus post quem.
