On July 4, 2019, the San Diego Police Department responded to a "check the welfare" call concerning an apartment in the city. Utilizing a master key provided by security personnel, officers accessed the apartment to assess the situation. Inside, they discovered the lifeless body of David Christopher Bonner, a male occupant, unresponsive on his bed. Observations of postmortem changes led the officers to confirm the death at the scene, deciding against any medical intervention.
