On March 13, 2018, the body of Samnieng Perez, a 69-year-old woman, was discovered in Tacoma, Washington. Ms. Perez passed away from natural causes at the Avamere Heritage Rehab. Unfortunately, at the time of her death, there was no immediate family known to the authorities. The Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office (PCMEO), tasked with handling such cases, undertook the responsibility of searching for the next of kin.
The PCMEO did manage to contact Ms. Perez's ex-husband. During their communication, he revealed that Ms. Perez had two children. However, her ex-husband declined to provide their names or contact details, though he promised to inform them about the situation. Despite this lead, the PCMEO was unable to establish contact with the children or any other family members after conducting an extensive search.
With no next of kin to claim her, Ms. Perez was entrusted to a rotation funeral home, which proceeded with cremation. The cremated remains were then returned to the custody of the PCMEO. The continuation of her case, along with her remains, rested at the facilities of the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office, located at 3619 Pacific Avenue, Tacoma.
