On June 15, 2018, the Memphis Police Department discovered the decomposing body of a 64-year-old man named Andrew Walton Sullivan-III in his secure apartment during a welfare check. This welfare check was initiated due to concerns for Sullivan's well-being, and upon entry, officers found that he had passed away from natural causes. The advanced state of decomposition suggested that he had been deceased for a significant period before being found. Sullivan had resided alone in this same apartment for over 40 years.

Despite a thorough investigation, identifying and notifying any next-of-kin for Mr. Sullivan has proven impossible. Neither his landlord nor his employer had any record of emergency contacts or next-of-kin information, and Mr. Sullivan had not listed any during his tenancy. The absence of family or contacts left him with only a presumptive identification, making it difficult for investigators and authorities to connect him with any relatives or acquaintances who might take responsibility for his remains.

After exhaustive efforts to trace any family connections, Mr. Sullivan's remains were laid to rest in the Shelby County Cemetery on October 11, 2018. His final resting place is the somber conclusion of a life known to few, if any, leaving a gap that even formal records can't entirely fill. The Memphis Police Department continues to have information related to the case, housed under the agency case number 1805008206ME. For any further inquiries, the department can be reached at their North Main Street location or via their provided contact number.
