In the quiet and bustling area of north Memphis, Tennessee, the remains of 63-year-old Willie Roosevelt Duke were discovered outside a local dollar store on August 3, 2018. His demise was immediately deemed to be free from any suspicious circumstances or indications of foul play. The decedent's identity was confirmed through federal assistance, as his fingerprints were sent to the FBI, leading to a positive identification. Yet, despite clarity on his identity, the mystery of his life began unraveling posthumously.

Willie Duke led a nomadic lifestyle, primarily residing in various rooming houses scattered throughout the Memphis area. His transient existence was marked by an absence of enduring connections, as evidenced by his landlords, who could provide no information on potential family members. Medical records further corroborated this isolation, offering no leads on next-of-kin who might have claimed his remains or celebrated his memory.

After exhaustive efforts to locate family members, the authorities were left with no alternative but to inter Willie Duke's remains at Shelby County Cemetery on November 21, 2018. As this case rests with the Memphis Police Department, the investigation remains open, yet stalled due to the lack of familial presence. The department, located at 170 North Main Street in Memphis, continues to hold the Agency Case Number 1808001480ME. Anyone with potential information is encouraged to reach out to the department at 901-636-3700. In the absence of kin, Willie Duke's memory persists through these records, urging the community to ponder the often overlooked lives around us.
