On February 28, 2005, emergency medical services personnel discovered an unidentified male clinging to a tree at the corner of W. 149th Street and 8th Avenue in New York, New York. The man, later referred to as Bernard Washington, was in critical condition, and shortly after his discovery, he went into cardiac arrest.
