On December 16, 2011, the body of Roger Byron Jones was discovered in Dallas, Texas. The Southwestern Institute of Forensic Science, the agency responsible for handling forensic investigations in the area, officially pronounced him deceased. Despite efforts to locate his next of kin, authorities are still searching for family members who may have information or be able to claim him.
