James Steiger, identified as an unclaimed person, was discovered in his Long Beach, California apartment on January 8, 2024. His decomposed body was found lying in bed after a welfare check was initiated by his employer who grew concerned when Steiger failed to report to work. The welfare check was conducted by the apartment manager, who found the apartment locked and subsequently contacted the authorities for assistance.
