On March 15, 2016, the body of Chi Fan Kiang, a female, was discovered in Gig Harbor, Washington. She passed away from natural causes while in care at St. Anthony's Hospital. Despite efforts to locate next of kin, it appeared Chi Fan Kiang had no known family members. The Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office (PCMEO) undertook an extensive search to identify any family connections, however, these attempts proved futile.
Following procedure, her remains were initially entrusted to a rotation funeral home. In due course, the cremains were returned to the PCMEO, located at 3619 Pacific Avenue, Tacoma, Washington. For over a year, her cremated remains remained unclaimed, a poignant reflection of her isolation in life. As dictated by the office's policy, those unclaimed after such a period are respectfully scattered at sea.
On August 30, 2017, Chi Fan Kiang's cremains were scattered at sea by the staff of the PCMEO during a ceremonial procedure. Despite the absence of a familial presence, the ceremony was conducted with dignity and respect. The agency, led by the PCMEO, can be contacted at 253-798-6494 for any further inquiries. While her case, represented by Agency Case Number 16-0513, closes in the records, the memory of Chi Fan Kiang remains honored through this final act of respect by the community that cared for her in her final moments.
