On July 19, 2020, the body of a woman, later identified as Elizabeth Ann Berry, was discovered in a homeless encampment in Victorville, California. Her life had been marked by transience and the use of numerous aliases, which included Elizabeth Riclels, Rickels, Riclles, Marshal, Mandy, Schultz, Ann Ster, Shirley Williams, Fran Locinbocle, and Marguarite Spencer. Her death left behind many questions, not least the challenge of properly identifying her amid this complexity of identities.
