On July 26, 2016, the body of Claude R. Petree was discovered in Clinton, Tennessee. Despite the successful efforts to locate and notify his family of his passing, no family member came forward to claim his body. Claude R. Petree was recognized as a WWII veteran, which added a significant facet to his unclaimed status as many veterans typically receive honors and recognition in death for their service.
