In early May 2023, the body of Charles Winford Benton was discovered under circumstances that prompted the attention of local authorities in Bessemer, Alabama. The case was brought to light on May 7th when it was reported that Benton had passed away due to natural causes. His death occurred while he was a tenant at the Diversicare of Bessemer Nursing Home, where he was under the compassionate care of Southern Care New Beacon Hospice.
