On December 31, 2008, the body of an unidentified male, later determined to be David Alan McLeod, was discovered in the area of Wheeling, West Virginia. Despite extensive efforts to identify him and locate his next of kin, McLeod remained unclaimed. The West Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, located at 619 Virginia Street West in Charleston, was tasked with handling the case, duly noting it under the autopsy case number 08-4188.
