On May 22, 2022, a tragedy unfolded at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital in St. Peters, Missouri, involving a married couple in their nineties. Anna M. Bode Robey, a 93-year-old female, was a patient at the medical facility where she had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness for several days. Around 11:00 a.m., law enforcement officers were dispatched to the hospital following reports of a shooting inside one of the patient rooms at 10 Hospital Drive.
Upon arrival, police
discovered that Anna Bode Robey had been fatally shot while lying in her hospital bed. In the same room, officers found her husband, 94-year-old John Robey, suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators determined that John Robey had entered the facility, which had signage prohibiting firearms but lacked metal detectors at the general entrance, carrying a concealed weapon. While the couple was alone in the room, he shot his wife before turning the gun on himself.
Anna Bode Robey was pronounced dead at the scene. John Robey was initially found alive but in critical condition and was transported for emergency medical treatment. He succumbed to his injuries the following day, dying on Monday, May 23, 2022. Authorities classified the incident as a murder-suicide. Because John Robey died shortly after the shooting, there were no arrests, trials, or convictions in connection with the case, though police identified him as the sole suspect responsible for Anna's death.
