In a tragic event that unfolded in Greensburg, Indiana, 14-year-old Tyler S. Hall, a male, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014. An eighth-grade student at Greensburg Junior High School, he was described as an active member of his community, involved with St. Mary's Catholic Church and a martial arts class.
The circumstances of Tyler's death point to a murder-suicide orchestrated by his 44-year-old father, Gregory Hall.
On that Tuesday, Gregory picked up his son from school, a routine occurrence. However, concern grew when Tyler was not returned to his mother, Amy Stainbrook, at the designated time. Family members, worried that Gregory might be suicidal, contacted the Rush County Sheriff's Department.
Authorities initiated a search for the father and son. Using cellphone data, they tracked Gregory Hall's location to Greensburg. The search concluded tragically when officers discovered their vehicle in a city park. Inside, both Tyler and his father were found deceased from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. A handgun was recovered from the vehicle.
Investigators suspect that Gregory Hall fatally shot his son before taking his own life. Reports indicated that Gregory had been dealing with depression in the time leading up to the incident. In the wake of the devastating event, Greensburg Community Schools brought in additional counselors to support students and faculty at the junior high school where Tyler was a student. The case was investigated as a murder-suicide.
