In the late morning hours of a Tuesday in August 2014, a tragic event unfolded in the parking lot of the Jordan Manufacturing Company in Monticello, Indiana, leaving three people dead in what authorities would later describe as a murder-suicide. Among the victims was Monica Gonzalez, a 43-year-old woman, who was fatally shot alongside her companion, 42-year-old Agustin Oliver-Vital.
The incident, which took place around 11:30 a.m.
on August 5th, was perpetrated by Monica Gonzalez's estranged husband, Manuel Martinez, who was 51 at the time. Both Monica Gonzalez and Agustin Oliver-Vital were employees of the furniture plant. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they discovered Oliver-Vital and Martinez deceased in the parking lot. Gonzalez was found critically injured and was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Investigators determined that Martinez had shot both Gonzalez and Oliver-Vital before turning the gun on himself. The White County Sheriff's Department confirmed that the incident was being investigated as a murder-suicide and that they were not seeking any other suspects in connection with the shootings.
