In the winter of 2014, the community of Shelbyville, Indiana, was struck by the sudden loss of one of its own. David Wayne Hudnall, a 33-year-old male, passed away at his residence on Saturday, December 27, 2014. A dedicated public servant, Hudnall had been a police officer with the Shelbyville Police Department since 2011 and was also a member of the U.S. Army Reserve at the time of his death.
His passing prompted an investigation by the Indiana State Police, who were called to his home following a report of a person shot.
Hudnall's life was one marked by service and achievement. A 1999 graduate of Waldron High School, he went on to earn a bachelor's degree in psychology from Ball State University in 2003. His commitment to his country was evident in his military career, which included a deployment to Iraq from 2008 to 2009, where he was awarded several medals of commendation. He had also been stationed in Hawaii from 2004 to 2007 and later served as a 2nd Lieutenant of the 55th Medical Company. While in the Army, he furthered his education by obtaining a master's degree in business management.
Beyond his professional life, David was a father to three children and an active member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. He was remembered for his love of spending time with his family and friends, his willingness to help others, and his enjoyment of watching Indianapolis Colts football. The investigation into his death concluded that foul play was not a factor, and there was no threat to the community. As a result, no suspects were identified, and no arrests were made in connection with his passing. The local veterans' organizations conducted a graveside military service to honor his life and service.
