In the summer of 2019, a burst of violence on Oliver Street in Fort Wayne, Indiana, irrevocably altered the course of Nichole Yvette Paschall's life. On June 23rd, the 49-year-old Black female was shot multiple times, an event that would ultimately, though not immediately, prove fatal. The initial attack left her with severe injuries that necessitated immediate hospitalization and later, a transfer to a long-term rehabilitation facility for ongoing care.
For over a year, she battled the devastating consequences of the gunshot wounds.
The fight for her life came to a sorrowful end on September 8, 2020. Paschall was discovered unresponsive in her bed at the rehabilitation center and was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The Allen County Coroner's Office subsequently ruled her death a homicide, attributing it to complications arising from the multiple gunshot wounds she had sustained fourteen months earlier. Her passing marked the 35th homicide in Allen County that year.
The investigation into Nichole Paschall's shooting and subsequent death remains an open and active case for the Fort Wayne Police Department. To date, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the shooting. Authorities have not released a motive for the attack, and the circumstances surrounding the incident that led to her untimely death are still under investigation. The community awaits answers and continues to hope for justice for Nichole Paschall and her family.
