In the summer of 2022, the life of 16-year-old Le'Brishia Hobbs was tragically cut short in Fort Wayne, Indiana. A Black female, Hobbs was a student at Southside High School with aspirations of becoming a pediatrician. Described as a loving and caring individual with a beautiful smile, she had goals for her future and a deep love for her siblings.
On July 6, 2022, in the 500 block of Picadilly Circle, Hobbs was found unresponsive in the rear yard of her home with a gunshot wound to the
head. She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and remained there for over a month. Despite medical efforts, Le'Brishia Hobbs succumbed to her injuries and passed away on August 23, 2022. The Allen County Coroner's Office officially ruled her death a homicide.
The investigation into her shooting led authorities to three other teenagers. Elaysha N. Underwood, who was 16 at the time, was arrested and initially charged with attempted murder. Following Hobbs's death, this charge was upgraded to murder. Underwood reportedly had a past sexual relationship with Hobbs. Another teenager, 16-year-old Jalayah Brown, was later charged with conspiracy to commit murder. The motive for the crime appeared to stem from a belief that Hobbs's cellphone contained images of the female suspects.
The third suspect, 17-year-old Raymond Washington III, was apprehended in Texas and charged as an adult with murder, felony murder, and robbery. Prosecutors alleged that the three teenagers conspired to kill Hobbs. In the ensuing legal proceedings, both Elaysha Underwood and Jalayah Brown pled guilty to their roles in the teenager's death. In September 2025, a jury found Raymond Washington III guilty on all charges related to the murder of Le'Brishia Hobbs.
