On a late Sunday night in Indianapolis, the life of 28-year-old Tiaira Cox was tragically cut short. A Black female and mother to twin girls, Jordynn and Journey Cox, she was a licensed nail technician with her own brand, 'The Nail Doll'.
In the late hours of September 29, 2019, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Van Buren Street on the city's near southeast side, following a report of a person shot.
Upon their arrival just after 11:30 p.m., they discovered Tiaira suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. She was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, but tragically, she succumbed to her injuries.
The circumstances of the shooting that unfolded that night were part of a violent evening in the city, with another fatal shooting occurring just minutes apart. However, investigators stated that there was no indication the two incidents were connected. In the days and years that have followed, the investigation into Tiaira's death has remained ongoing. Authorities have not publicly identified any potential suspects in her murder. No arrests have been made in the case, leaving a void in the search for justice for the young mother.
