Frederick S. Reed, aged 55, was found deceased on July 3, 2017, in Indianapolis, Indiana, marking the city's first homicide of that year. The incident occurred on the east side of the city, near the 1100 block of North Jefferson Avenue. Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded to reports of gunfire and discovered Reed with fatal gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
