In Greentown, Indiana, on Thursday, March 18, 2021, Aimee Autumn McCollum Romero, a 43-year-old female, died in a tragic event that was later determined to be a murder-suicide. Howard County Sheriff's deputies discovered her and her husband, 51-year-old Richard 'Chase' Romero, deceased inside their home in the 7500 block of East 300 South after responding to a welfare check around 9:30 a.m.
An autopsy confirmed that Aimee Romero died from a gunshot wound to her neck, while Richard Romero
died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The couple was in the process of a divorce, which Aimee had filed for earlier that month. Court records also show that she had sought a protective order against her husband. The case was still pending at the time of their deaths.
Aimee was a well-known and active member of her community. She was the vice president of the Eastern Howard School Board and was described as a dedicated advocate for students and quality education. She was also a vice president and branch manager at Ruoff Mortgage. Remembered as a bright light and a treasure to those who knew her, she was actively involved in her church, Morning Star Church, where she sang and played the piano. Her death left behind three children. Investigators considered the case a domestic murder-suicide and did not search for any other suspects.
