Dominic Jarvis, a 34-year-old man, was fatally shot on September 5, 2017, at a homeless encampment located in West Oakland, California. This encampment had been established under Interstate 980 and was known for being one of the oldest and most dangerous sites in the city. Jarvis was killed at the Northgate Avenue and Sycamore Street area, where numerous incidents of violence and accidents involving residents had previously occurred.
