Policeman C. H. Jones of the Pocahontas Police Department in Virginia was tragically shot and killed on June 16, 1891, while attempting to arrest a man for disturbing the peace. The incident occurred when Jones confronted the suspect, who then opened fire, fatally wounding the officer. Following the shooting, the suspect fled to a nearby mine, where he remained holed up for three days before being apprehended.
