Deputy U.S. Marshal Zack T. Wade, aged 35, tragically lost his life on July 25, 1905, near Union Hall, Franklin County, Virginia. Marshal Wade was attempting to arrest a man for producing illegal moonshine when he was fatally shot. The suspect, armed with a shotgun, fired at Marshal Wade, striking him in the abdomen.
