Trooper Robert Fulton Giles, a 24-year-old officer with the Virginia State Police, tragically lost his life on July 22, 1954, in Coeburn, Virginia. The incident occurred when Trooper Giles and another police officer responded to a disturbance outside a café on U.S. 58-A in Coeburn.
