Doris Evelyn Bruce Hosey, aged 53, tragically lost her life on October 18, 1974, in Woodford, Virginia. Her death was a result of a violent encounter with Paul John Knowles, a notorious serial killer known as "The Casanova Killer." Knowles, who was on a cross-country killing spree, broke into Hosey's home on that fateful day. Despite initially claiming he would not harm her, Knowles demanded a gun and money.
