William Douglas Oyler, a 39-year-old Lieutenant with the Buena Vista Police Department, tragically lost his life on January 8, 1982. Lieutenant Oyler was responding to a report of shots fired into a house at the intersection of Locust Avenue and 33rd Street in Buena Vista, Virginia. Upon arriving at the scene, he was ambushed and shot in the neck by an assailant who was hiding in a wooded area nearby.
