On May 8, 2007, the body of 54-year-old Michael Kent Jamerson, a male resident of Madison Heights, was discovered by a turkey hunter in a wooded area just off State Route 130 in Amherst County, Virginia. An investigation revealed that Jamerson had been fatally shot multiple times in the head and body. The murder weapon, a. 357 Magnum revolver, was later found by a college student fishing on the banks of the James River, approximately three miles from where Jamerson's body was located.
