In the winter of 2010, a horrific act of violence shattered the tranquility of a rural community in Appomattox, Virginia, claiming the life of 43-year-old Karen Elizabeth Canard Quarles, along with her husband and daughter. A respiratory therapist for Centra Health for eleven years, she was a mother and grandmother whose life was tragically cut short on Tuesday, January 19, 2010.
