In the late hours of a Thursday night in Goochland County, Virginia, the life of 20-year-old Christopher Ryan Benson, a male, was tragically cut short. Deputies were called to a party on Camelback Road after a witness reported a shooting. When they arrived, they found that Benson had suffered a gunshot wound. According to the Goochland Sheriff's Office, the incident was an accidental shooting. Another man at the party, 20-year-old David Cash Raymond of Gum Spring, was in possession of a firearm. Believing the gun was not loaded, Raymond had reportedly pointed it at his own head and pulled the trigger multiple times with no result. When Benson took the firearm and did the same, the gun discharged, inflicting the fatal wound.
In the aftermath of the tragic event, David Cash Raymond was taken into custody. He was charged with reckless handling of a firearm for his role in the incident. Following his arrest, Raymond was released and awaited a preliminary hearing in Goochland General District Court to face the charge stemming from the accidental death of Christopher Ryan Benson.
