In the early morning hours of November 23, 2014, the quiet community of Dillwyn, Virginia, was disturbed by an act of violence that resulted in the deaths of two men. One of the victims was Kenneth Dean Beasley, a 51-year-old male resident of Dillwyn. The Buckingham County Emergency Communications Center received a call about a shooting at approximately 4:38 a.m.
at a residence on Roachs Lane.
Upon their arrival, sheriff's deputies discovered the bodies of Kenneth Dean Beasley and another man, 65-year-old Radford Thomas Ranson, also of Dillwyn. Both men were pronounced deceased at the scene, having succumbed to injuries sustained in the shooting. The incident was immediately treated as a double homicide, prompting a joint investigation by the Buckingham County Sheriff's Office and the Virginia State Police.
The investigation quickly led to a suspect, and an arrest was made later the same day. Greg A. Taylor, a 39-year-old man from Dillwyn, was taken into custody at the scene. Authorities indicated that there was no evidence to suggest the involvement of any other individuals in the killings. Following his arrest, Taylor was charged in connection with the deaths of both Beasley and Ranson and was held without bond at the Piedmont Regional Jail in Farmville.
