In the pre-dawn hours of a Saturday in Gainesville, Virginia, a dispute escalated into deadly violence, claiming the life of 23-year-old Claude Lee Jackson III. On September 12, 2015, at approximately 1:50 a.m., shots rang out near Old Linton Hall Road and Charis Avenue, the culmination of a physical altercation. Jackson, a resident of Gainesville, was found at the scene suffering from gunshot wounds and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries.
He was a male.
The violent encounter left two others injured. A 22-year-old man from Bristow sustained life-threatening injuries, and a 24-year-old from Manassas was treated for a graze wound. Investigators determined the shooting was not a random act but stemmed from the prior physical conflict. The initial suspect was described as a Black male with dreadlocks, seen wearing a white shirt and sweatpants, who reportedly fled the scene in a light-colored SUV.
In the days and weeks that followed, law enforcement officials made a series of arrests. Five men were ultimately taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. The suspects were identified as Alvin Jones, 32, of Manassas Park; Wayne Carmichael Kennedy, 32, of Centreville; Calvin Jones, 31, of Manassas Park; Derrick Nathaniel Jones, 26, of Manassas Park; and David Lennel Broadnax, 31, of Manassas.
Alvin Burnett Jones faced the most severe charges, which included murder, aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. All five suspects were held without bond following their arrests.
