On a late morning in May, the bustling sounds of Richmond, Virginia, were tragically interrupted by gunfire. On May 9, 2016, Rashawn A. Brathwaite, a 23-year-old Black male, was shot and killed in the 4000 block of Midlothian Turnpike. The incident, which unfolded around 11:13 a.m. at the Midlothian Village Apartments, was a double shooting that left another man with non-life-threatening injuries.
