In the quiet, affluent community of McLean, Virginia, a tragic event unfolded that left neighbors and friends in shock. On January 27, 2017, Shirley Zhou, a 48-year-old Asian female, was found deceased in her home on Windy Hill Road. The discovery was made after a family member, concerned after being unable to reach the family, peered through a window and saw a body, prompting a call to the Fairfax County Police.
Upon entering the residence, authorities found a grim scene.
Shirley Zhou, her 16-year-old son, James Wenjie Chen, and her 52-year-old husband, Hong Chen, were all found with fatal gunshot wounds. The subsequent investigation by homicide detectives led to the conclusion that the deaths were the result of a domestic-related double murder-suicide. It is believed that Hong Chen fatally shot his wife and son before taking his own life.
