In the quiet community of Blairs, Virginia, the life of Ricky Jerome Myers, a 36-year-old Black man, was cut short in a sudden act of violence. On November 11, 2017, Myers was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head. He was emergently transported to a trauma center and was initially listed in stable condition. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries two days later, on November 13, 2017, at Roanoke Carilion Hospital.

was a resident of Spring Garden, Virginia. He was employed as a forklift operator at RTP and was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his son, Demtrius Stephens, as well as his parents and several siblings.
The investigation into the shooting that claimed Myers' life led to a significant development with the arrest of a man from Lynchburg. This individual was subsequently charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting. The first person to arrive at the scene of the shooting was an off-duty Pittsylvania County Sheriff's deputy. While an arrest has been made, the motive behind the shooting has not been publicly disclosed.
