In the summer of 2020, a young man's life was cut short in a residential area of Annandale, Virginia. Jose Alexander Villa Lobo Guevara, a 20-year-old Hispanic male, was fatally shot on the evening of July 24th in the 4100 block of Wadsworth Court. The incident prompted an investigation by the Fairfax County Police Department, who soon identified a suspect in the case.
Detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau began to piece together the events that led to Villa Lobo Guevara's death.
Their investigation pointed towards another 20-year-old man from Annandale, Abel Alexander Castro Juarez. Believing the shooting was not a random act of violence, authorities secured warrants for Castro Juarez's arrest on charges of second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. A description of the suspect was released to the public, noting he was a Hispanic male, around 5'6' tall and weighing 170 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Law enforcement also indicated he was likely traveling in a blue 2003 Honda Accord.
The search for Castro Juarez extended beyond the borders of Virginia. In early August, he was located and apprehended in New Mexico by U.S. Border Patrol agents during an immigration inspection on a commercial bus north of Las Cruces. Following his arrest, detectives from Fairfax County traveled to New Mexico to extradite him back to Virginia to face the charges against him. Upon his return, Castro Juarez was taken to the adult detention center where he was held without bond.
