On a summer evening in Martinsville, Virginia, a verbal dispute escalated into a fatal encounter that ended the life of 31-year-old Charles Brandon Coleman. The incident occurred on Sunday, June 27, 2021, at the Maplewood Apartments.
Officers from the Martinsville Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at the apartment complex. Upon their arrival, they discovered Coleman behind one of the apartment buildings, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial investigations revealed that Coleman had been involved in a verbal argument with another man, which turned into a physical altercation. During the fight, the other individual produced a handgun and shot Coleman multiple times.
Following the incident, law enforcement identified 51-year-old Andre Douglas King of Martinsville as the suspect. On July 1, 2021, King was arrested without incident by the Martinsville Police Department and members of the US Marshals Office Fugitive Task Force. He was subsequently charged with First Degree Murder, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and a Probation Violation. King was held at the Martinsville City Jail without bond following his arrest.
