In the small community of Honaker, Virginia, a verbal dispute tragically escalated, leading to the death of 39-year-old Scottie Ray Holmes of Richlands on December 30, 2021. Holmes, a man known for his love of the outdoors and devotion to his family, was fatally shot. Remembered as an avid hunter and fisherman, and a dedicated fan of the Miami Dolphins, his sudden death sent shockwaves through his community.
He had spent most of his life in the Richlands area and worked as a trim line specialist.
The incident prompted a swift response from law enforcement, who identified 50-year-old Timothy Eulis Coleman as the suspect. According to multiple witnesses, Coleman shot Holmes following an altercation. After the shooting, Coleman fled the scene, sparking a manhunt involving local, state, and federal authorities. The vehicle Coleman used to escape was discovered later that day in Cleveland, Virginia.
The search for Coleman came to an end on December 31, 2021. As law enforcement officers located him and moved in to make an arrest, Coleman took his own life with a pistol. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by the officers on the scene, he was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The Russell County Sheriff's Office, along with the Virginia State Police, conducted the investigation into both the death of Scottie Ray Holmes and the subsequent death of the sole suspect, Timothy Eulis Coleman.
