Officer John Elwood Painter, aged 55, tragically died in the line of duty on February 1, 2022, on the campus of Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Virginia. Painter, a retired Chief of Police for the Town of Grottoes and a current Campus Police Officer at Bridgewater College, was known for his dedication to his community and his love for the outdoors.
